Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust
St Clere’s School converted to an Academy in September 2011 and in April 2012, with East Tilbury Primary School, it opened the first multi-academy trust to have Co-operative Articles of Association in the county. Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust (formally St Clere’s Co-operative Academy Trust) has since proudly welcomed Thameside Primary School, Stanford-le-Hope Primary School, Arthur Bugler Primary School and Brentwood County High School into its family of schools.

During 2017, the Trust changed its name to Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust. The name comes from our previous Chair, who passed away at the grand old age of 86 in the summer of 2016. Ray Osborne had been a governor at St Clere’s School since very soon after it opened in 1978. He only ever missed one meeting, which was held a fortnight before he died. Ray was Chair of Governors at the school from 1980 and Chair of the Trust from the beginning of 2011.
We held a number of branding workshops to clarify our understanding of who we were and where we were going. We worked through a number of different options and eventually came back to the name our CEO had first suggested. It works for us as our schools all retain their original name, we take a ‘back room’ role and do not wish to be linked to one school more than another. We have to move away from “St Clere’s” and take up a separate identity and Osborne works for everyone, whether they knew Ray and made the link, or not.
