Year 11 Progression Options
To assist you and your child in exploring the various options available after Year 11, we have enclosed a booklet outlining the full range of opportunities. These options ensure that all young people continue their education or training until at least age 18, as required by law.
The booklet provides details on the main progression routes, including:
- Full-time education: This involves staying in a structured learning environment, such as a school's Sixth Form or a Further Education (FE) college. Here, students can pursue a variety of qualifications, including A-Levels, vocational courses (like BTECs), or the new T-Levels.
- Apprenticeships: For students who prefer a hands-on approach, an apprenticeship combines paid employment with studying for a qualification. This is a great way to gain practical, on-the-job experience while earning a wage.
- Work or volunteering with part-time education: Some students may choose to enter the workforce or volunteer after Year 11. The law requires that this be combined with part-time education or training.
The booklet also includes details on:
- Different types of qualifications, what they lead to, and which learning styles they suit best.
- Factors to consider, such as entry requirements based on GCSE grades and the type of learning environment that will help your child thrive.
We encourage you to read through this booklet with your child and discuss the possibilities. This will help them make an informed decision that aligns with their interests, skills, and aspirations. Your child will also receive independent careers guidance sessions throughout the year to further support their choices.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our Year 11 or careers team.
